A friend has a ex mark 60 inch zero turn mower with a Kohler twin cylinder on it. He can't find any model or serial on the engine but when he starts it up it blows oil in the air cleaner and out the dip stick hole. Compression is 195 and 205 so We do not think it is a head gasket? any idea what would cause that problem?
Pull the dip stick and smell the oil for the presence of gasoline.
Carb needle & seat is likely leaking through.
Since it could be one of at least 5 different models of "Kohler twins", you might want to better identify which one.
It can make it easier for someone to help you.
We checked the oil it was very thin and milky so we are going to rebuild the carbureteor We can't find numbers on the engine but on the frame there is numbers model lzXkc603 and serial 1682234
I found an lz25kc603 with kohler command twin on it. Number sticker would have been about 3x2 on the side of plastic shroud.
Make sure you don't overfill oil when you change it. Should be no more then 2 quarts max. Filter should be a 51348 (Wix numbers) or 3614 (fram etc)
You can post a pic to help positively ID it. My guess is its a cv25s if it's a vertical crankshaft.
We changed oil and filter and cleaned and rebuilt carburetor. When it is running it sounds like a boat motor and both cylinders are firing. The running is not as smooth as a briggs twin There is still oil coming out where the air cleaner tube goes to on the engine. The compression is 195 and 205 pounds.
You may have some residual oil that may take time to dissipate.
Was the air cleaner "oiled up"? Changed?
If it's clogged, it'll be like the choke is on.
The air cleaner was changed and the engine is a horizontal shaft engine. Does that sound right for compression 195 pounds?
