IMO, the chute adjustment is necessary if you don't want snow blowing back in your face. My current set-up, a 42" blower has the cable already, but my previous 38" blower did not. I bought the cable for $80 from the dealer for that one. You can also get an electric linear actuator to adjust the chute height. There are a few threads on that if you do a search you will find some info. I may end up doing that someday down the road.
BTW, looking at your picture, you need to raise the attachment point of the lift rod on the lever. It's about 4-6 inches too low from what I can tell.
