Big White was a product of a year and half long search to find a replacement for my Mighty bronco. I looked at dozens of f150's bronco's 250's and finally stumbled upon Big White on a local car lot for $9,200. Which was just out of my price range. Dad loaned me some money and Big White was gifted a new home :thThumbsU

Pretty clean truck had around 135,000 miles on at this point

It was not to long after this I figured out why they would not inspect this truck. After you drove it 40 miles or 40 minutes the LF and RR caliper would lock on hard. Let it sit 10 minute they'd unstick and you could drive all day with out issue after that.

So I drove her till my tax return money came back late winter till I could fix the issue, Big Whites brake job

After that Big White was back in her game and cleared for heavy haul :fing32: And we started rolling some miles on :thThumbsU

But Big White has done the work of a 1 ton being a 3/4 ton truck and has been untouched since the brake job, other than tires and oil changes :thThumbsU

There are some small issues like not being able to unlock the doors with a key, only one speaker works and she has some rust starting.

But wanted to get a thread rolling on Big White which has been by my side for the last 2 years and counting as a daily driver and trailer pulling truck :drunkie:

I'll post more pics I ran out of 12 max pics already :sidelaugh

Nice looking truck. One of the last "real" ones out there, with an 8 foot bed and 6 speed. It's especially rare as a gasser with the 6spd, I don't think I've ever seen one.

I have the triple ball and like it as well.

Now that's a truck. Heavy and a huge bed. She's a keeper Steve. :fing32:

#7 ·
Thanks guys, figured I'd drop a pic or 2 here of the load today. Which i have to admit while not a huge load was a fair size bed load and running threw the gears knew was there. To get back from the guys place I have to start out at a light at the bottom of a half mile long hill from a side road. Big white had a grin on its face running on all 8 and hitting the top at the speed limit in fourth gear. All eyes were on her hitting the high way and made me proud. Also thankful for the long bed not one inch smaller. Just enough to take the heavy suspension bounce out that some of us know about :drunkie:

She really does fit my bill to a T. Not the fastest truck, maybe the least amount squat while hauling said load and will get you there with the a/c about all I really need in a truck. And its standard so nobody trys to steal it :sidelaugh They look in the window and see 3 pedals and go ah @^%#$%# :sidelaugh Im also going to knock on wood about that :hide:

Yep, now that's a truck! Six speed manual - love that!! I didn't even know they made them in '07. 3/4 ton is a great real truck. Mine is '02 F150, same 5.4, but I think yours has the 3 valve or something.

#9 ·
Humm yeah not sure on the more valves or not part. We had an 07 king ranch f150, and 02 f150 7,700 package and we still have an 09 F150 with the 5.4 motors. They seem like a good all around motor

Sad to report Big White first major failure at almost 145,000 miles. The clutch fork broke I think. Clutch won't disengage anyhow. I knew it was only a matter of time with the odd noises the throw bearing made sometimes.

Theres is no inspection cover or hole to look at the clutch threw. So the trans has to come out. So I guess its going to a trans shop since I just don't have a way to deal with a ZF6 plus pto and transfer case attached.

Figured I'd let you fella's know. We were doing great up until that point :dunno:

On a bright note it was the only area of concern on Big White was her clutch. After that is fixed :greendr:

Im working threw it. But im hopeful, but doubtful. From what I've seen online the clutch fork breaking is common. I have one last thing external to try in the morning. What had me thinking is I can hear throw out hit the clutch fingers but thats it. I found a piece of cracked plastic on the firewall in between the rod and the clutch cylinder. Its spun 90 degrees maybe loseing a 1/4 inch of travel. The clutch let out about 3 inches from the top so im doubtful at best thats it. But with some warmer weather comeing I want to try it once. I don't have the tools or friends to drop the 6 speed out myself and see whats up. As much as I hate to im gonna call for some estimates to have a clutch put in and go from there at some shops.

It was 3 degrees F when it happened. Couldn't really trouble shoot then. Was hopeing it was just froze, but not looking good for that either :hide:

#22 ·
Never mind on broken plastic. Its made that way twist and the clutch master cylinder comes out of the firewall :sidelaugh

But tryed it to day SOL. It dose slip abit when I press the clutch pedal abit now while moveing. So off to a trans shop it goes.

Don't have any pics of White Hawk and Big White side by side :dunno:

Well haven't been keeping up to date here. But Big White had a clutch put in last month. Throw out bearing was gone and ate the fingers on the pressure plate. So whole new clutch kit put in and were off and going now :thThumbsU

Today while playing with the trailers at work my 7 pin plug wouldn't work. Unplugged the factory 7 pin plug and the whole back was corroded pretty bad. luckly the harness side was good bought a 7 pin with a 4 flat in it as well and got all the trailer lights working tonight again. Had my 10ft on here :thThumbsU

Well we retired the truck from work that made me buy Big White. The 06 or as the guys called it super tick :fing32: 227,000 hard earned miles in that truck :crybaby: She fought hard for the last 1,000 miles running on 5 and a half cylinders. Plugs , oil leak, exhaust, brakes all needed done plus needed a bed so thats how she went :drunkie: Are heavy hauling and boss's lack of maintenance caught up .......

But Big White has been doing alright. Need to have the spark plugs done and the exhaust fixed on it and maybe one more year of service

Since last update I had Big Whites plugs changed and exhaust fixed to go threw PA inspection. Did not have the exhaust manifold leak fixed. But is so much quieter now!

Turns out the plugs were original to the truck at 147,000 miles :hide: 7 out of 8 came out one broken. Not bad odds considering 4 broken is normal for the 5.4's

Last thing she did before I had the plugs changed. It was a struggle with this light load :hide:

First load after plugs changed. Thats about a ton worth on the tongue of the trailer. Pulling with ease winding threw the gears with all the power is a blast :thThumbsU It has never ran this good while I have owned it before this :drunkie:

Will add and note changed engine oil at 147,485ish miles saturday :thThumbsU

Thanks guys. I can not take credit for plug removal. I let a shop do that.

Land vehicle Vehicle Car Motor vehicle Transport
Shortly after I had mine changed I realized the 06 at work was showing the same symptoms. But a shop had changed a coil pack a plug already and said they had been changed

Spark plug Auto part Automotive ignition part Automotive engine part Screw
So I got brave at work let them all sit with pb blaster and got them all out and it had 2 bad coils. started at 8am got done at 3 pm with that job. Still well worth the money to have someone else change them!!!!!
